You may know Florida as a world-class vacation destination, but Florida is quickly earning a well-deserved reputation as the place to come for business. In fact, the country’s leading CEOs rank Florida one of the best states to do business, according to the magazine Chief Executive.

Our state’s policies reflect its priorities. As a lifelong entrepreneur, I understand what it takes to grow a business, and that is why I have made economic development a priority of my administration. Thanks to the support of the Florida Legislature during the past two years, we’ve made great progress in reducing the size, cost and scope of government and expanding opportunity for entrepreneurs.

While other states raised taxes to compensate for lower revenue coming into state coffers, Florida cut government spending to balance the budget. Florida’s taxes were cut by $1 billion while increasing spending on education by the same amount. We repealed 1,700 costly, burdensome and outdated regulations. As a result, government is smaller and smarter, fewer businesses are paying taxes, and money once spent to comply with government rules will now be available for businesses to hire new employees and invest in capital improvements.

Perhaps more importantly, Florida welcomes business growth and encourages investment. Our state offers a diversity of cultures and communities that can meet the needs of your clients and your business. From tight-knit towns with deep roots to fast-moving, global hubs of commerce, Florida has a place that is the perfect fit for your growing business. From Pensacola to Key West, Floridians are ready to work and your success is our success.

Those who know Florida do business in Florida. Florida ranks first for workforce development and training by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, second for transportation infrastructure by Business Facilities and is the third largest exporter of high-tech goods and services, according to TechAmerica. Finally, London-based foreign direct investment magazine fDi recently named Florida as having the best strategy for promoting foreign investment in our state.

So, please continue to visit our beaches, but while you are here, also take time to learn how you can stay for the business. I am confident that you will be glad you did.

Ballot Box

Your thoughts about fast-food workers joining unions:

  • Good idea - they need more bargaining power (and possibly higher wages)
  • Not in favor - bad for business and the price of burgers
