Shorstein Stepping Down

State Attorney Harry Shorstein, who serves Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, is not running for re-election in 2008. Shorstein, who has held the job since 1991, says he wants to practice law with his sons. Shorstein, 66, has come under fire in recent months for a long-running feud with Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford. He's also been involved in a conflict with fellow State Attorney John Tanner, who serves St. Johns, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties, as the result of an investigation by Shorstein into allegations that Tanner abused his authority during a probe of the Flagler County Jail. Veteran prosecutor Angela Corey has already entered the race.
