A Tradition of Excellence

(Florida Trend)

This month’s issue of FLORIDA TREND is one that hits close to home for me. Our Economic Backbone feature focuses on pediatric health care, a topic most of us can relate to for one reason or another. For me, it’s multiple reasons — but a significant one is that my daughter, Abbigail, is a neonatal nurse at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.

The dedication of these amazing pediatric practitioners who work tirelessly to care for our most vulnerable patients is a gift for which we all should be tremendously thankful.

Florida is home to many wonderful children’s hospitals — which you can see listed on page 34 of this issue. We also are fortunate to have an amazing group of four children’s hospitals that make up Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children — Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital; Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando; Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami; and Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville

These four non-profit institutions together represent the most pediatric subspecialty areas, treating patients with the highest critical and complex care needs. One in four Florida children will be treated at one of these hospitals at some point.

Our Economic Backbone feature on pediatric health care begins on page 12. I am sure you will find the work occurring within Florida’s children’s hospitals informative and uplifting.

FLORIDA TREND works hard to ensure we deliver the most value possible to you, our readers. It is important for us to deliver the facts, data, information and insights that help you make the most informed decisions for you, your employees and your businesses. We strive for excellence, and we’re proud that others can see our commitment reflected in the pages of the magazine. Earlier this year, FLORIDA TREND was named the American Society of Business Publication Editors’ 2023 Magazine of the Year, along with several honors for individual efforts from the organization.

This past June I attended the Association of Business Publishers’ awards dinner in Detroit which recognized publishers across the United States, Canada and Australia for excellence. I am proud to share that FLORIDA TREND was honored across several categories — a true recognition for our incredible team, their outstanding work and their dedication to their craft.

It takes a team effort across all departments to produce amazing work, day in and day out.

However, I would like to recognize those who were singled out in the awards. South Florida Editor Mike Vogel was recognized for “Best Feature, Single Story” for “Difficult by Design,” a look at the architectural review process in Palm Beach, which was the August 2022 cover story. National honors also were awarded to Mike in the category of best body of work for a single writer; Associate Editor Art Levy for his Icon series; Executive Editor Vickie Chachere for commentary; Art Director Gary Bernloehr and Associate Art Director Jason Morton for best use of photography and illustrations; and Robb Lee, manager of digital operations, for best use of multimedia.

My congratulations go to our team; their outstanding effort in delivering editorial excellence cannot be overstated. FLORIDA TREND is proud to be Florida’s Business Authority, and we look forward to continuing to uphold that responsibility for many years to come.
