Florida tax revenues beat projections in December

With inflation helping boost sales tax collections, money continues to amass for state lawmakers as they patch together a budget for next fiscal year. State economists reported Thursday that general-revenue tax collections in December were $610.9 million, or 19.3 percent, over a projection made in August. General revenue totaled $3.771 billion during the month, compared to the projection of about $3.16 billion. More from the News Service of Florida.

Florida gets $740.4 million boost for rental assistance

Florida has received an additional $740.4 million from the federal government for its emergency rental assistance program, OUR Florida, state officials announced Thursday. To qualify for the program, renters must be low income or unemployed and be behind on rent or utility payments — or at risk of falling behind. Chewy.com accuses ex-executive of stealing trade secrets before defecting to rival Fuzzy.com

Dania Beach-based online pet supply company Chewy.com has a bone to pick with a former executive that it says defected to a competitor with stolen trade secrets. On Jan. 3, his last day at work, Zackery Riley “misappropriated an exceptionally large volume of Chewy’s confidential documents and trade secrets by transferring them to his personally email account and then attempting to delete this information from Chewy’s network,” according to a lawsuit filed against Riley on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale. Airline shortages strain Tampa International Airport’s recovery

While Tampa International Airport rebounded quicker than most U.S. airports from the coronavirus pandemic, the road to recovery snagged somewhat in recent months. Airport officials estimate they won’t reach a “post-recovery period” until at least next year, airport advisor Pete Ricondo told the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Thursday.
