Why is Florida among least affordable housing market? Hint: Income.

Among that nation's least affordable housing markets? Florida, which ranked No.7 on the list. The median home price in the Sunshine State has risen 99.3% since 2012, the report showed, with the average home in Florida now costing $137,000 more than it did in 2012. Some areas, like Palm Beach County, have seen even greater increases in housing prices, rising 24% in the past year alone. More from the Palm Beach Post.

Trust Index: Could Central Florida reach herd immunity by fall?

One of Central Florida’s largest venues is planning to re-open at full capacity in fall, but will the state or Central Florida have reached herd immunity with COVID-19 by then? Herd immunity is defined as when enough people have either had the disease or been vaccinated against it, reducing the chance of the virus spreading. When Billie Eilish hit the stage of Orlando’s Amway Center in March of 2020 it was the last time the 18,000-seat venue was at full capacity, but it could happen again this fall. More from WKMG.

Despite 'missing' students, Florida education advocates say the need for school funding is greater than ever

Nearly 90,000 public school students are “missing” in Florida as enrollment estimates have dropped amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A mid-school-year estimate by state economists projects that 87,811 fewer students have enrolled in public schools than were predicted to sign-up for the 2020-2021 academic year. As the search is on to find out where those students are, school advocates on the First Coast are also pushing the state to reconsider how it funds districts. More from the First Coast News.
