Evictions return to Florida despite CDC order

The nationwide moratorium ordered by the Centers for Disease Control was supposed to protect renters who have lost work from the pandemic. After it was announced, Gov. Ron DeSantis allowed Florida’s eviction moratorium to lapse at the end of September, saying it would avoid confusion over which order was in force. But court records show that the federal order has failed to protect renters in Florida — including hundreds of Tampa Bay families — from losing their housing. Winter real estate market forecast is anything but cold

National Association of Realtors (NAR) Chief Economist Lawrence Yun recently spoke at the association’s virtual 2020 Realtors Conference & Expo, during a forum on “Residential Economic Issues & Trends.” Noting that 2020 had been a year of surprises, Yun said particularly surprising was the strength of the housing market during a global pandemic. Downtown Jacksonville will soon have apartments and Airnb rentals made from shipping containers

The 18 shipping containers stacked on a downtown Jacksonville lot have been lifted, loaded, unloaded, packed and unpacked on journeys from one port to the next, so it's fitting that half the residences being built out of the containers will be used for people on the move in Airbnb rentals. That's the plan for the containers after JWB Real Estate Capital finishes combining them into a three-level complex of residential units in the 400 block of Ashley Street in downtown's Cathedral District. ‘Miracle Mile is sick.’ Coral Gables looks to redevelopment to save iconic street

Looking to rejuvenate an ailing Miracle Mile, Coral Gables commissioners say they’re ready to embrace a zoning tweak that could carry big repercussions for one of South Florida’s most iconic streets: significantly easing rules that require on-site parking in new construction on the strip. The measure, a small piece of a wide-ranging update of the Gables’ famously strict zoning code, could pave the way for extensive redevelopment of the Mile, the city’s premier shopping street. Out-of-state home buyers flocking to Central Florida during pandemic

Nearly 1,000 people are moving to the Sunshine State every day. “It is overwhelming the amount of people who are flocking to Central Florida,” said Veronica Figueroa, who runs The Figueroa Team, the exclusive partner of Zillow for Central Florida who also handled the Cunninghams’ purchase. She said she hears from thousands of prospective out-of-state buyers from as far as California who are motivated by the climate, affordability, walkability and the pandemic’s work from home lifestyle. A “Thanks In Giving” warm clothing collection for the homeless came just in time as temperatures drop in the area. The successful effort was conducted Thursday, Nov. 19, by Realtors and associates of Coldwell Banker Vanguard Realty at Ponte Vedra Beach. An abundance of coats, scarves, hats, winter clothing and blankets was collected for Mission House, which serves the homeless of the Beaches area. In addition, $250 was raised during the event and will be given to Mission House to assist in its ongoing efforts.
