Who said that?

"I was looking forward to it, but it's 2020. There you go."

-- Ryan Carter

A Fort Myers business owner has been named Florida's Small Business Person of the Year.

Ryan Carter, a vice president and co-owner of Scotlynn USA Division — a transportation and logistics company based in Fort Myers — clinched the title this year.

The statewide honor came as a bit of surprise to Carter, a native of Evansville, Indiana.

"It was a surprise because I felt like this is a massive state with a lot of very successful entrepreneurs — everywhere," he said.

While he's both honored and humbled to have received such an award, Carter, 36, said it didn't exactly come at an ideal time.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the national awards ceremony and everything that comes along with it will be held virtually this year, making it "not as exciting," he shared in a phone interview.
