Work-Life Balance, Career Development and Mission Keep Moffitt Cancer Center on Computerworld's List of 100 Best Places to Work in IT

TAMPA, Fla. (June 17, 2019) — When doctors diagnosed Brenda Schlagenhauf with breast cancer last year, she knew she would receive the best possible treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center as a patient and a team member. Schlagenhauf has been a systems analyst in Moffitt’s Research IT department for 26 years and was able to take time off and adjust her schedule while going through cancer treatment.

That kind of flexibility and work-life balance highlight why Computerworld magazine recently ranked Moffitt as 31 on its list of top 100 Best Places to Work in IT 2019.

“We are proud to be recognized as a best place to work in IT for the third consecutive year,” said Jennifer Greenman, Moffitt’s vice president and chief information officer.  “Our team members remain dedicated to enabling exceptional care delivery and groundbreaking research through innovative technology solutions.  This passion drives our commitment to partner with teams across the organization to achieve Moffitt’s mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer.”

Schlagenhauf says she’s proud to advance Moffitt’s mission by providing innovative technology for researchers. Over the past quarter century, she’s also taken advantage of continuing education and professional development opportunities to advance her IT skills.

Moffitt’s commitment to work-life balance offers her a flexible schedule and the ability to work from home. “I feel like they care about their employees,” Schlagenhauf said. “We’re treated like family. It’s not like a corporation where you are just a number. There’s a lot of compassion from the management on down.”

Computerworld has ranked the Best Places to Work in IT since 1994 based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training and retention, as well as extensive surveys with IT employees. This is the second year in a row that Moffitt was ranked 31 on the list.

“The market for IT talent remains very tight, and employers continue to focus on finding and holding on to the best people,” said Computerworld executive editor Ken Mingis. “Our 2019 survey shows again that the Best Places to Work in IT are dynamic organizations that provide top pay and a broad array of programs and benefits designed to make them attractive places to work. Many show that they have a commitment to training, to diversity and to improved communication and teamwork.”
