"The first half will be stronger. The second half will be weaker."

Hank Fishkind, a noted economist, expects the national, state and local economies to experience “a shallow recession” in 2020.

He does not expect that “dip” to be as deep and severe as the recession that struck more than a decade ago, largely because “housing starts” have not created excessive inventory.

Fishkind shared his forecast with nearly 400 business and civic leaders attending a Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp. breakfast on Thursday.
