When Publix employees pulled up to the new Disston Plaza store about 4 a.m. Saturday, their first customer, George Mitcheson, was waiting.

The ribbon cutting wouldn’t happen for three hours.

Mitcheson had been there since 3:40 a.m., ensconced outside the supermarket doors in a fold-up chair, whiling away the time on Facebook and browsing emails.
