Clearwater’s Tech Data becomes Florida’s largest company

Tampa Bay’s Tech Data Corp. closed its fourth quarter as Florida’s largest company fueled by a 40 percent surge in sales compared to 2016. Its $36.8 billion in annual sales is thanks largely to the Tech Data’s acquisition from Avnet, Inc. which pushed the company into Asia for the first time in February 2017. Florida nonprofit legal clinic hires Puerto Rican attorneys displaced by Hurricane Maria

The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida has opened a nonprofit legal clinic focused on providing legal services to Puerto Ricans who have settled in Florida after fleeing Hurricane Maria—and the clinic is employing displaced Puerto Rican attorneys. More from the ABA Journal.

Norwegian Cruise Line to build new Miami terminal

Norwegian Cruise Line is set to build a new landmark terminal at PortMiami. Set to open in fall 2019, the new terminal features three giant arcing see-through domes that are touted by the company as a “pearl” on the Miami horizon. Florida ranked fifth in nation for development in 2017

Commercial real estate’s contribution to the nation’s economic and employment growth soared in 2017. Florida excelled, too, ranking fifth among states in commercial real estate development, behind Texas, California, Pennsylvania and New York. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

St. Johns River deepening on hold for weeks

A month after a contractor began scooping the bottom of the St. Johns River for a deepening project that was years in the making, the dredging barge is nowhere to be seen. The contractor has moved the equipment to a job elsewhere, temporarily halting the deepening in Jacksonville. More from the Florida Times-Union.
