Home price gains weakened in December

Real estate data provider CoreLogic says home prices rose 5 percent in December from 12 months earlier. That is down from the 5.5 percent price gain recorded in November. It's much lower than the double-digit gains that occurred last year. More at the AP and CoreLogic.

Budget saves millions for safety net hospitals

Gov. Scott wants to repeal the so-called “hospital tiering” law set to take effect later this year. Under the controversial policy, counties that use local dollars to attract federal matching funds for healthcare would have to share the money with counties that don’t raise local funds. Activist shareholder Starboard Value has been urging the merger between the nation's largest office suppliers, recently writing a letter to Staples' chief executive. AutoNation beats earnings expectations

AutoNation reported multiple acquisitions, a 28 percent increase in domestic vehicle sales, a 12 percent increase in import vehicle sales and a 10 percent increase in premium luxury brands across the country. More at the South Florida Business Journal.
