Florida businesses to get breather on workers comp rates
Florida businesses won’t have to worry about big increases next year in their workers-compensation insurance rates. The state Office of Insurance Regulation on Wednesday announced that it had rejected a proposed overall 1 percent increase in rates for 2014. Tupperware sales, profit increases
Tupperware Brands Corp. on Wednesday announced record sales and profit for its third quarter, with revenues up 1 percent in U.S. dollars to $603 million. The Orlando-based company reported profit of $49.9 million, or 95 cents per share, up from 85 cents last year. More at the Orlando Sentinel.
South Florida hospitals rate highly for safety
South Florida medical centers emerged from the latest round of hospital safety ratings with another strong performance overall. In its fourth biannual Hospital Safety Score report, The Leapfrog Group gave "A" grades to 27 of the 47 South Florida hospitals it rated. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Miami Beach investor sets sights on Mongolia
When Harris Kupperman co-founded Mongolia Growth in 2011, he took it public with about $4 million in capital, mostly from himself, friends and family. The company raised $51 million that year, and it’s invested about $40 million in Mongolian real estate. The company now has more than 3,000 shareholders and more than 100 Mongolia-based employees. Funding approved for Orlando downtown MLS stadium
County commissioners on Tuesday approved $20 million in tourism taxes to be used toward the funding of an $84 million downtown Orlando Major League Soccer stadium, clearing the last hurdle for the city to be the home of the league's next expansion franchise. More at the AP and the Orlando Sentinel.
