Florida Lottery Celebrates 25th Anniversary With New Logo

On Monday, January 7, 2013, the Florida Lottery, one of Florida's most recognizable brands, unveiled a new logo and brand identity, marking the agency's 25 years of achievements, innovation, stewardship and winning.

Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell revealed the new logo on a sign at the headquarters building in Tallahassee.  At the event, she also recognized employees who have worked with the Florida Lottery for 25 years and the positive impact the agency has had on the state, namely the $24 billion transferred to education.

The new brand revealed today better reflects the excitement of playing and winning, and is part of a broad strategy to keep the Lottery fresh and dynamic as it moves into the future. By providing more chances to win, the Lottery also continues to create greater funding for education in Florida, including the Bright Futures Scholarship program, which has sent more than 600,000 Florida students to college since its inception.

"While products and services abound, it is time to focus on the innovative and fresh spirit of today's Lottery," said O'Connell. "We have taken a thoughtful and thorough approach to this new brand in order to develop an identity that is compelling and expresses the energy and excitement that fuels the brand today."

While the identity of the Florida Lottery is changing, the cornerstone of the agency and its commitment to serving the state of Florida will remain steadfast and true. The goal is to generate more awareness and, in turn, more funding for education with a more visible and modern image that will attract a broader population of loyal fans.

"The Florida Lottery is a true success story for the state of Florida," said Governor Rick Scott . "For 25 years, this agency has consistently provided benefits to our state's economy and education system."

Since the Florida Lottery's first instant Scratch-Off game, MILLIONAIRE, premiered on January 12, 1988, players have embraced the Lottery as an entertaining outlet that gives them a chance to make their dreams come true. Since then, the Florida Lottery has created more than 1,200 millionaires, at a rate of almost two per week, last year alone. More than $37.7 billion has been paid out in prizes.

Over the past 25 years, the Lottery has also generated more than $24 billion for education in the state. Florida's community colleges and state universities have received a combined total of more than $6.3 billion since the Lottery's inception, and Florida's public schools have received more than $14 billion over the past 25 years.

"We are so proud of our agency's accomplishments over the past 25 years, but we could not be more excited for what's to come," said Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell. "As the Lottery continues to evolve, we are committed to attracting new players, maintaining existing players, rising above the competition, doing business with integrity and upholding our primary mission to fund education. These commitments fortify this agency as one of the most successful lotteries in the nation."

As the Florida Lottery continues with enthusiasm encourage people to play its games, the agency will also continue to make it a priority to use tickets and signage to encourage players to "Play Responsibly."
