Little Palm, Lot of Dough

At the five-acre Little Palm Island Resort off the coast of the lower Keys, a cool million gets you, for a weekend, exclusive use of all 30 guest suites; limousine service from Key West International Airport; champagne and unlimited cocktails; videos and photo albums of your stay; meals from a world-class culinary team; a fully staffed yacht; a chauffeur; and a private fireworks display.

Million-Dollar Weekend: Little Palm Island Resort throws in daily Indonesian-inspired spa treatments and guided backcountry fishing trips, with his and her Loomis rods and Shimano reels to keep.

The resort also offers more modest packages: A thatched bungalow suite rents for $745 to $1,145 a night, depending on the season. Two larger suites, at 1,000 square feet apiece, run $1,045 to $1,545.

"I really want my guests to forget about all their worries," says the general manager, Emmanuel Gardinier. "I want them so relaxed that we have to wheel them back to the boat."

Recently named best U.S. resort by Conde Nast Traveler magazine's readers, Little Palm Island was the vacation home of President Harry S Truman and his wife, Bess. It opened as a resort in 1988 and is now part of the Noble House Hotels & Resorts chain.
