Habitat for Humanity: The Power of Home

Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties builds homes for deserving families in our community that would otherwise not qualify for a traditional home loan. They partner with families and individuals in Pinellas, West Pasco, and Hernando Counties based on several criteria, including need and ability to pay a mortgage. Habitat has partnered with over 900 families to accomplish affordable homeownership in its service area. Through the Habitat homeownership program, these families put in 350-450 sweat equity hours to help build Habitat homes alongside fellow partner families. Habitat families complete a homebuyer education curriculum of 36 classes focusing on finances, home repair, warranties, lawn maintenance, and even how to be a good neighbor. At the end of the program, each homeowner partner purchases their home and earns a 0% fixed-interest mortgage that will ensure affordability throughout the life of the loan. Habitat is one solution to the affordable housing crisis, and together, we can build more homes, communities, and hope.

With a recent service area expansion into Hernando County announced in April, the affiliate remains focused on advancing its mission to partner with more families needing to make homeownership dreams a reality.
