› Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams resigns
Just hours ahead of an opinion expected June 2 from the city Office of General Counsel concerning Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams moving out of Duval County to Nassau County, Williams announced his retirement. In a letter addressed “To the Citizens of Jacksonville,” Williams writes that after some consideration, he decided that a court battle over his residency would not be good for the community.
› Tampa’s Westshore Marina District will come alive over summer
South Tampa’s newest waterfront neighborhood is getting busier. New development has turned the struggling lot south of the Gandy Bridge into an upscale community. More businesses and events will open this summer. The first of three Marina Pointe condominium towers and a private marina is expected finish construction by the end of the year.
› Orlando Brewing moves to I-Drive, lands Orlando airport spot
Orlando’s oldest independent craft brewery is moving to International Drive, and it’s also landing an outpost at Orlando International Airport. Orlando Brewing, currently at 1301 Atlanta Ave., is moving to 5368 International Drive southeast of Fun Spot America and Universal Orlando Resort, John Cheek, the brewery’s president and founder, said Wednesday. Cheek said the business is also partnering with a restaurant group to bring its name and beer to Orlando International Airport’s new terminal set to open in September.
› Florida nonprofit hosting food distribution event this weekend
Florida’s largest food bank is distributing food to Jacksonville residents. Farm Share announced on Thursday they are hosting a food drive with the House of Prayer International Ministries on Saturday, June 4. They will be providing recipients with fresh produce and non-perishable canned goods. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, distributions will be drive-thru only and attendees must wear a mask and arrive in a vehicle with a trunk or cargo bed.
