› Southwest Florida construction company celebrates 50th with two major projects
Willis Smith Construction of Lakewood Ranch will be building two projects likely to be considered East County landmarks for decades to come. The projects will take place during the company’s 50th anniversary this year. Although, neither will be finished until 2023. Still, the vertical part of construction for both projects this year will attract plenty of attention.
› South Florida theater hosts public forums on social issues
Plenty of theaters hold "talk-backs" to get audience feedback after shows — especially controversial ones. But Island City Stage is hosting discussions on important issues for people who might never buy a ticket. The Wilton Manors theater, which produces works focusing on LGBTQ+ issues, characters and relationships, launched its "Behind the Red Curtain" series of free public forums last year, to honor its 10th anniversary season.
› Jacksonville investor pays $5 million for San Marco properties
A Jacksonville investment group paid $5 million for commercial property facing the East San Marco shopping center under development at Hendricks Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard. Evoco Enterprises LLC bought four buildings Jan. 6 on the opposite site, anchored by tenants that include Roosters Men’s Grooming Center and the Posting House neighborhood bar.
› St. Petersburg museums to offer COVID-19 vaccinations on Jan. 16
In an effort to “boost the ‘Burg,” five St. Petersburg museums are offering free COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters on Jan. 16. The purpose of the program is to encourage people to get vaccinated so that the venues can continue to safely welcome guests, while also showcasing the city’s diverse cultural experiences.
