Florida COVID vaccine rules make it easy for workers to opt out, experts say

Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature made it easy for a vaccine-hesitant person to opt out of a workplace coronavirus vaccine requirement. Then hours later, the Florida Department of Health made opting out even easier. On Thursday, Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo signed an emergency rule outlining a number of exemptions an employee can claim to avoid a workplace vaccine mandate. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]

Central Florida small businesses struggle to keep shelves stocked

The latest U.S. Census Small Business Pulse Survey shows nearly 45% of small businesses reported having domestic supplier delays. Experts say supply chain shortages are leading distributors to lean more on big box stores and less on small businesses. Adriana Hurtado, of Writer’s Block Bookstore in Winter Park, knows every book has its place. It’s not hard to see that she loves what she does. “Going into this business was very inspiring, because it got me to read again," she said. "Even though I’ve been a reader for a long time, I kind of lost that because of my previous jobs. [Source: Spectrum News]

Florida gas prices spike as Thanksgiving travel traffic nears

Gas prices this holiday travel week will hit their highest of the year in Florida, according to AAA, the Auto Club Group. The average price per gallon in the state on Monday was $3.35 per gallon, higher than in any state south of Illinois and east of Colorado. The statewide average was just below the national average of $3.42 per gallon, with the Tampa Bay average a cent or two below that, according to gas tracking site GasBuddy. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]

Judge refuses to block health care vaccination rule

U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers issued an 11-page order Saturday denying a motion by Attorney General Ashley Moody for a preliminary injunction or temporary restraining order against the federal rule. Moody’s office filed a lawsuit Wednesday challenging the rule and sought an injunction or temporary restraining order before the vaccination requirement takes effect Dec. 6. Rodgers, however, wrote that Florida had not shown “irreparable harm” to justify an injunction or temporary restraining order. [Source: News Service of Florida]
