› Melbourne hires Casey Gilbert to tackle homelessness as liaison between city, community
The city of Melbourne has hired a community affairs liaison — a newly created position — to study homelessness and seek solutions with nonprofits and businesses. Casey Gilbert started work Oct. 11. She served as executive director of Melbourne Main Street from 2014 to 2015 and Portland Downtown from 2015 to 2020 in Maine.

› Gainesville commission agrees to sell Lot 10 property to developer for multi-story project
Construction could begin as soon as next summer on a mixed-use downtown project with affordable housing that will be at least seven stories tall on a site known as Lot 10. The project is proposed to include a full-service grocery, 75 on-site parking spaces, a minimum of one floor of office space, 104 condominiums that include affordable units, and a footbridge connecting the property with the adjacent city-owned parking garage.

› Base rate hikes approved for Tampa Electric
With supporters saying the deal will help transition to cleaner energy, the Florida Public Service Commission on Thursday approved a settlement that will increase base rates for customers of Tampa Electric Co. over the next three years. The commission unanimously approved the settlement, which was reached in August by Tampa Electric, the state Office of Public Counsel and representatives of major business and government electricity users.

› Ikea’s Jacksonville market manager offers insight into challenges of pandemic
Ikea, the Sweden-based self-assembly furniture store that opened in Jacksonville in 2017, experienced at least four pandemic-related shifts. Those are increased demand; supply chain issues; staffing challenges; and customer moves toward online ordering and pickup, including the end of the Ikea catalog that began distribution in 1951.
