› L3Harris employees, supporters protest mandatory COVID-19 vaccines for federal contractors
About 200 L3Harris Technologies Inc. employees and their supporters protested COVID-19 vaccine mandates on Monday outside the company's Palm Bay campus. Among those joining the early-morning protest along Palm Bay Road were Florida Rep. Randy Fine, R-Palm Bay, and Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina.

› WJCT awarded $500,000 grant for local journalism initiative
WJCT Public Media announced Oct. 18 that the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations awarded a $500,000 grant to its Local Journalism Initiative. It accompanies a new Monday-Friday newsletter, Jacksonville Today, which launched Oct. 18. Its website is jaxtoday.org. The initiative emphasizes strengthening local news reporting in Northeast Florida by expanding local reporting capabilities and online publication, WJCT said.

› With refreshed menu and look, South Tampa restaurant set for grand reopening
Timpano Hyde Park, a South Tampa restaurant that specializes in Italian cuisine, will reopen in late October with a new menu and renovated dining room and patio. Located at the corner of Swann and South Dakota avenues in the heart of Hyde Park Village, Timpano — owned by Tavistock Restaurant Collection — has been in business for nearly 20 years and is led by Executive Chef Jason Saldutti and Tavistock Vice President of Food and Beverage Michael Ferraro.

› Port Orange eyes improvements to keep up with 'Down Under' area's popularity
Tucked away under the east end of the Dunlawton Bridge, the city’s Down Under area is a place where people go to dine, sip a craft beer, fish or simply enjoy a view of the Halifax River. But business owners in that area say a trip to Down Under, especially during nighttime hours, can also mean trouble finding a parking space, evading potholes, or even finding signage pointing the way. Those issues are keeping the area from becoming an even more popular stop on the Halifax River.
