› Despite pushback, Miami-Dade extends deadline for plans to privatize Rickenbacker
Despite a village resolution and a handful of last-ditch public comments, Key Biscayne leaders’ last hopes for Miami-Dade County to scrap its request for proposals to privatize the only road onto the island were dashed Tuesday when county commissioners voted unanimously to drop the Venetian Causeway from the effort and give bidders until March to redesign their plans for the Rickenbacker Causeway.
› Fried urges 'endangered' status for manatees
State Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried asked the federal government to again list threatened manatees as “endangered,” as Florida has had a record number of manatee deaths this year. In a letter Tuesday to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Fried called “misguided” the March 2017 decision to reclassify manatees as “threatened” under the federal Endangered Species Act --- after a half century of being classified as endangered.

› Bring your ‘best self’ to work: Jackson Health System raises minimum wage to $15/hour
The Jackson Health System announced Tuesday that it will raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour, affecting about 900 employees. “We’re proud to pay all our employees a fair and living wage, so that they can bring their best self to the work place and so that we can recruit the best of the best,” said Carlos Migoya, the CEO of Jackson Health System, noting the highly competitive market amid a nationwide labor shortage.
