› Poll: Floridians support both Biden and DeSantis
Floridians are giving overall bipartisan approval to both President Joe Biden and Governor Ron DeSantis on a variety of issues, according to a new University of South Florida poll. The poll found President Biden currently has majority approval for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic (61 percent), jobs/economy (53 percent), race relations (51 percent), and climate change (51 percent). At the same time, Governor DeSantis has majority approval for jobs/economy (60 percent) and the COVID-19 pandemic (52 percent).
› Brockelman named VyStar vice president of government affairs
Jacksonville-based lobbyist Matt Brockelman has left his partnership at The Southern Group to become VyStar Credit Union’s vice president of government affairs. VyStar announced the hiring July 26 in a news release. According to the credit union, Brockelman, 32, will manage and coordinate VyStar’s local, state and federal government relations in the new position.
› Hillsborough seeks cure to trash woes ahead of planned rate increase
Waste Connections Inc., the trash hauler serving more than a third of Hillsborough County, missed nearly 263,000 curbside pick-ups in June and mid-July. In some neighborhoods, service was a day late. In others, people said they were skipped for a full week. In total, 246 routes weren’t completed in the seven-week period ending July 15.
› Main Squeeze Juice Co. to Expand in Jacksonville Beach
Main Squeeze Juice Co., a Louisiana-based juice and smoothie bar franchise, is heading east to the Sunshine State, opening its newest location in Jacksonville Beach. Their latest storefront will be located at 544 Marsh Landing Parkway, near the Target shopping center off of J. Turner Boulevard and A1A, and is slated to open in early August.
