› Report: Florida, Tampa Bay have some of the most expensive car insurance in the US
A study by Bankrate found the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area and Florida have some of the most expensive car insurance in the U.S. The report evaluated insurance costs in all 50 U.S. states as well as in the 25 most-populated metros. States and metros are ranked by the percentage of income residents spend on car insurance.

› Kissimmee resort abruptly closes; guests report being kicked out, not given refunds
A Kissimmee hotel abruptly closed on Thursday, sending approximately 100 guests out into the cold with little explanation and no refunds. Champions World Resort, located at 8660 W. Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee, told guests that they had been sold and all the buildings had to be emptied, according to a report from WESH. On Friday, cones had been set up in front of the parking lot, with men who identified themselves as security turning people away, saying the building had been sold.

› Florida wins court ruling to dissolve MDX toll board, dealing a blow to 836 extension
The Miami-Dade toll agency that pushed an extension of the 836 expressway into Kendall may be forced to dissolve after an appeals court tossed out the authority’s lawsuit challenging a 2019 state law creating a replacement toll board. This week’s ruling against the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority by the First District Court of Appeal could clear the way for the state to dissolve the “MDX” and replace it with the Greater Miami Expressway Authority, or “GMX.”

› First Aldi grocery store in Venice is a 'miracle,' shopper says
Manna from heaven came into Marilyn Murphy's life on Thursday in the form of the new Venice Aldi store. Murphy, who lives in Venice three months a year, is an Aldi devotee. When she's in her full-time state of Illinois, she goes to Aldi. In Florida, she drives to Aldi as far away as North Port or Port Charlotte to stock up on groceries. She lives six miles away from the one in Nokomis and now she's just a mile away from the one in Venice's Jacaranda Plaza.
