› Sarasota County to pause COVID-19 relief fund applications
By the time August had rolled around, Sarasota County was the last on the Gulf coast and one of the last of Florida’s 55 counties with populations below 500,000 to begin doling out federal coronavirus relief money to struggling businesses and needy residents. Initially, seeking CARES Act relief was so hard and confusing that many struggling businesses and nonprofits gave up.
› Tampa radio personalities lose jobs amid iHeartMedia layoffs
Radio conglomerate iHeartMedia is in the midst of its third round of layoffs of 2020. A handful of Tampa Bay employees, on-air and behind-the-scenes workers, have lost their jobs as a result, according to interviews and posts on social media.
› American Airlines’ ungrounded Boeing Max planes are headed back to Miami
American Airlines’ Boeing Max planes will be flying from Miami International Airport by the end of the year, the company said, after the Federal Aviation Administration lifted its ban on the aircraft Wednesday. The national air safety agency first grounded the planes in March 2019 following two Boeing Max crashes less than six months apart.
› DIA wants the Landing to start with a park
The Downtown Investment Authority wants to secure designs for a minimum 4.5-acre public park at the former Jacksonville Landing site before putting the remaining property on the market for development. The DIA filed a draft request for proposals to the city Procurement Division for review that solicits designs for park space at the site’s St. Johns riverfront area and Laura Street corridor, according to CEO Lori Boyer.
