› How a Miami-area group is using tech to fight inequality and social justice issues
The global pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, the heated political contests nationally and locally — if the events of 2020 have taught us anything, it’s that there is often a disconnect between government and the people. A young Miami nonprofit, Code for South Florida, is bringing techies together from Miami-Dade and Broward to create solutions to bridge that gap with the help of technology, and often in partnership with government departments, nonprofit organizations and colleges.

› Disney’s Animal Kingdom welcomes baby rhino
A male white rhinoceros has been born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. And there are more on the way. Mother Kendi gave birth to an as-yet-unnamed calf Sunday, weighing in at about 150 pounds. Kendi was the first white rhino born at Walt Disney World back in 1999; her new offspring is the 11th.

› Archaeological misstep on Celestial Railroad site draws fine in Jupiter
When project leaders pitched the Inlet Waters townhouse development in Jupiter's Inlet Village area, they promised to pay tribute to the property's historical nature. Their plans included mock railroad tracks, a homage to the so-called Celestial Railroad, a 19th-century rail line connecting Jupiter to the Lake Worth Lagoon with freight stops called Mars and Venus.

› Naples country singer will appear on 'The Voice'
Popular Southwest Florida country singer Ben Allen will sing on an upcoming episode of “The Voice,” a show publicist confirmed Friday. Allen — the singer and rhythm guitarist for the Ben Allen Band — appears on an upcoming Blind Auditions episode, said show publicist Elizabeth Cox. She didn’t know exactly which episode, but urged viewers to watch Mondays and Tuesdays.
