› TooJay’s Deli emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with new owner
West Palm Beach-based TooJay’s Deli, one of the first restaurant chains to declare bankruptcy during the COVID-19 pandemic, is emerging from bankruptcy under new owners, the company announced Thursday. ToJay’s entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late April, saying the decision was “a direct result of the devastating impact" of the state-imposed shutdown of all restaurant dining rooms.
› UF study eyes health effects for retired NFL players
Nearly half of former National Football League players who used opioids in 2010 continue to use them today, and nearly 60 percent of them experience moderate to severe depressive symptoms, a University of Florida study shows. Published in the Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence, the study examined the long-term effects of opioid use in retired NFL players.
› Brew pub with shipping container on top targets historic building
One of downtown Miami’s most historic staples, the Alfred I. duPont Building, could soon be home to a microbrewery and brewpub that would boast a cantilevered shipping container. The City of Miami’s virtual Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board heard plans last week for the 11,000-square-foot brew hub that would also feature an outdoor beer garden built atop the abutting annex.
› Florida’s largest school district cuts ties with troubled online platform
Florida’s largest school district is severing ties with an online platform many blame for failures as the county tries to get kids back to school. Following a 13-hour meeting, the Miami-Dade County School Board unanimously voted early Thursday to stop using My School Online. Teachers can now begin using other platforms, the Miami Herald reported.
