› Mayport ship CO fired over ‘loss of confidence’
The commanding officer of the Mayport-based USS Philippine Sea was removed from her post Monday “due to a loss of confidence in her ability to command,” the Navy has announced. Capt. Erica Hoffmann had commanded the guided missile cruiser for just over a year. A written statement from the Naval Surface Forces Atlantic public affairs office didn’t elaborate on the decision.

› New Port Richey allows extra open areas for business use
To give local businesses and restaurants more room for their patrons while still keeping them safe through social distancing, New Port Richey City Manager Debbie Manns signed two administrative development orders this week allowing expansion for seating and displays.

› Robert Stuart to retire amid Orlando nonprofits’ changing of the guard
Longtime Orlando City Commissioner Robert Stuart is about to retire from his other day job — as executive director of the Christian Service Center for Central Florida — amid a major leadership shake-up for Orlando’s nonprofit safety net that also includes the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and United Against Poverty.

› Former Rays player to open gyms in region
Matt Joyce now plays for the Miami Marlins but is well known in the Tampa Bay region thanks to his 2009-14 stint with the Tampa Bay Rays. Now the former All-Star outfielder, along with his wife, Brittany Joyce, and business partner Blair Johnson, is embarking on a business career in the region, opening five F45 Training franchises, starting on Saturday, May 23.
