Gas prices could bump back up as Floridians return to roads

Florida gas prices could be in the fast lane to bump back up as more drivers return to work this week. The end of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ stay-at-home restriction is expected to boost optimism within the fuel market, leading experts to believe gasoline demand will soon be on the rise, according to AAA. Florida gas prices are averaging a four-year low at $1.77 a gallon. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

Insurers are telling businesses their policies don’t cover coronavirus shutdown. John Morgan attorneys say they’re wrong.

Already, lawsuits have been filed in courts across the country, including in Florida, demanding insurance companies pay out claims. And in at least eight states, legislation has been introduced that, if passed, would require insurers to cover losses or change policies going forward in the event of more stay-at-home orders brought on by a virus. Florida arts groups get federal jobs help

Theaters still may be closed, but thanks to federal Payroll Protection Program money from the Small Business Administration, both Asolo Repertory Theatre and Florida Studio Theatre have been able to bring some of their employees back to work, while others now have help to cover staff who never stopped working. Popular outlet mall plots reopening strategy

One of the largest shopping destinations in Southwest Florida, Miromar Outlets, is joining several other centers statewide in reopening May 4. “We know there are a lot of people who are looking forward to shopping, dining, walking around the mall and returning to some degree of normalcy,” says Jeff Staner, vice president and general manager of Miromar Outlets. “We have implemented a number of protocols to ease safety concerns.” More from the Business Observer.

 Miami Angels closed its first investment of 2020 in the midst of the pandemic and it has another deal in due diligence now. Yes, the South Florida angel network is open for business. Miami Angels is coming off a strong year – its best year ever for number of deals. In 2019, the angel network invested in 16 deals, 12 of them new investments and four follow-ons. In total, Miami Angels has invested $12.7 million in 36 companies since 2014.
