› Arturo Alvarez, founding member of Cuban American Bar Association, dies at 71
Arturo Alvarez, trailblazing Miami trial lawyer and co-founder of the Cuban American Bar Association, died Monday at the age of 71. A native of Havana, Cuba, Alvarez was one of a handful of Cuban law students at the University of Florida when he graduated in 1972.
› Habitat for Humanity launches $6 million affordable housing project in St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park
Habitat for Humanity chose its small satellite office in one of the city’s most underprivileged areas to make a significant announcement. During the next 12 months, the agency will leverage $6 million in tax credits to build 45 affordable single-family homes in St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park.

The Florida black bear will remain off limits from hunters, but only for now. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday approved a 10-year management plan and decided there was no need to schedule a hunt to control the growing population of bears in the wild.
› New trolley link for Florida International University
A trolley proposed beyond city limits could be a crucial link among the city of Miami’s westernmost neighborhood, Florida International University (FIU) and, through their respective connections, nearly every corner of the county. If established, the unnamed trolley would start where the city’s Flagami Trolley route ends.
