› Amid disputes about St. Petersburg’s historic preservation process, some crave the designation
For some time, property owners and entire St. Petersburg neighborhoods have been caught up in arguments about the benefits and vagaries of the city’s historic designation process. A growing tension forced the City Council this year to declare a moratorium on third-party historic designations, a process some say violates their property rights.

› North Port faces a financial dilemma with aging water control infrastructure
General Development Corp. built 81 miles of canals and waterways in the 1950s to transform wetlands into buildable lots for its North Port Charlotte development. Those canals and waterways — a defining characteristic of the city now called North Port — function in a way that is analogous to the human body’s circulatory system.

› Data breach at Miami server exposes personal information on virtually every Ecuadorean
Detailed information on more than 20 million people — most of them thought to be Ecuadorean nationals — was found on an unsecured server in Miami, providing identity thieves and scammers a treasure trove. The internet security firm vpnMentor said it discovered the cache of information during a routine scan of the internet and that the data breach had been closed last Wednesday.

› Florida's first Buc-ee's gas station hosts groundbreaking in Daytona
Officials in Daytona Beach broke ground Monday for what's expected to be the largest gas station and convenience store in the state of Florida. The ceremony at the northeast corner of LPGA Boulevard and Interstate 95 marked the start of construction for the first Buc-ee's to come to the Sunshine State.
