› MiMo association sues city over murals
After the City of Miami Commission granted an appeal for a set of murals at a business in the MiMo Historic District, a community organization that sets out to preserve the integrity of the district has filed a lawsuit against the city. The MiMo Biscayne Association filed a petition this month against the commission’s decision to approve an appeal for murals at the Organic Bites restaurant after the city’s Historic and Environmental Preservation Board found that the murals were not in compliance with the district.

When the Dr. Phillips Center’s new Steinmetz Hall opens in 2020, what will become of the long-serving — and frequently maligned — Bob Carr Theater? Officials at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts have expressed interest in continuing to run the building as a theater. The city of Orlando, which owns the structure, says there could be a variety of uses for the brick-and-glass landmark, located northwest of downtown in the midst of the burgeoning Creative Village project.
› Homes sales and prices jump in parts of Tampa Bay
Single-family home sales and prices jumped in most parts of the Tampa Bay area in July as the supply of available homes shrank to its lowest level in at least a year. Hernando had the most impressive sales gain — up more than 17 percent year over year — while Pasco showed the biggest price increase, climbing 10.2 percent.
› By the Numbers: Florida ranks 11th highest on beer taxes
The state beer excise taxes in Florida ranked 11th in the nation, according to a new analysis from the Tax Foundation based on January 2019 data. The state’s effective excise tax on a gallon of beer in Florida stood at 48 cents, the Tax Foundation study found. That amount is on top of a federal rate of 11 to 58 cents per gallon that’s based on both location and quantity.
