Researchers develop new early citrus greening detection method

A new strategy may provide the citrus industry with the means to more effectively prevent the spread of the devastating Citrus greening disease, or Huanglongbing (HLB), according to Science Daily. The publication describes development as being huge for the citrus industry. Citrus greening has already devastated the Florida citrus industry and poses a threat to California and Texas as well as Australia and the Mediterranean region. Florida insurance company holds day-long event for interns to learn more about industry

Career day has gotten an upgrade. A standout example is area insurance firm FCCI, which in mid-July hosted an inaugural event dubbed “Career with a Purpose: A Day at FCCI Insurance Group.” The event was held at FCCI’s Lakewood Ranch headquarters. Sarasota veteran overcomes brain injury to become digital artist

 Diana de Avila has been a soldier and a nun. A school psychologist and a computer engineer. An executive and an entrepreneur. A motorcycle crash almost killed her and she’s struggled with a traumatic brain injury and the effects of multiple sclerosis. When de Avila suffered a relapse two years ago, she lost sight in one eye, temporarily, and then the other one. Afterward, she discovered something even more extraordinary. Her brain had changed. She experienced colors and shapes in a different way. Pictures came to mind and she wanted to create them. Later this year, several of her pieces will be featured in an art exhibit for veterans at the Virginia War Memorial. In Florida, her work is for sale at Art Center Sarasota’s new online site.
