Florida, Georgia taking their water feud to New Mexico

The next chapter of Georgia’s long-running water wars with Florida will play out in a New Mexico courtroom. Paul Kelly, the Santa Fe-based senior judge the Supreme Court appointed as the case’s expert adjudicator, announced this week that the next round of oral arguments will occur in an Albuquerque federal courtroom on Dec. 16. The announcement represents the first public action taken by Kelly since justices appointed him the case’s so-called “special master” a year ago this month. More from the AJC.

Electric vehicle charging to expand on Florida roads

Look around — not while you are driving, please — and you may notice how many electric cars are in traffic next to your fossil-fueled SUV. They all need to get plugged in for one to 10 hours to get enough charge to handle a full day or two of commuting. Now Gov. Ron DeSantis has a plan to expand the state’s electric vehicle infrastructure by adding fast-charge public stations at 23 sites along I-95, I-75, I-10 and in the Miami metro area. The Centers for Disease Control estimate there are about 205 Vibrio vulnificus cases each year in the United States. But thanks to climate change, many experts project that number will grow. A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine showed Vibrio vulnificus is moving in higher amounts into new territories as global waters warm. More from the Miami Herald.

Cutting the cord isn't just for TV. Floridians are axing landlines

floridaFloridians are abandoning landlines, a study by state utility regulators shows. According to the Florida Public Service Commission, a poll of Floridians in 2018 found that residential landline use dropped about 24 percent between 2017 and 2018, while business landlines dropped about 23 percent over the same period.
