› Florida getting $166 million from VW “dieselgate” settlement; state wants public input on how to spend it
Florida is getting $166 million from Volkswagen as part of a $3 billion national settlement reached when the carmaker was caught improperly rigging emissions equipment to make it look like VW cars (including Audis and Porsches) were emitting less pollution than they actually produced.

HB 563 provides unemployment benefits to domestic violence victims who’ve been forced to quit their job and/or relocate to avoid an abusive situation. To qualify, a person must present a court injunction, protective order or other evidence that “reasonably proves” domestic violence occurred.
› Carnival cruise lines pledges to curb its ocean dumping
Carnival Corp. executives pledged anew Friday that steps are being taken to curb ocean pollution, the subject of a recent $20 million federal penalty imposed because of continued environmental violations. Carnival outlined some of those steps at a hearing before a pair of skeptical Miami federal judges. CEO Arnold Donald says the world's largest cruise line is embracing a new culture of compliance with environmental laws from the top down.

Chewy.com’s customers enjoy the convenience of automatic renewal of pet supplies so they always have what they need for their pets, according to Chewy CEO Sumit Singh. The “auto-ship” is one factor in Chewy reporting a 45 percent increase in sales in its first fiscal quarter after taking the company public. In June, Chewy had one of the most successful initial public offerings so far this year. The Dania Beach-based company’s quarterly revenue beat analysts’ estimates.
