Safer
Nearly nine years ago I wrote in this space about an effort to make Florida’s children safer. Ed Burr, a real estate developer (GreenPointe Holdings) in Jacksonville, had founded the Monique Burr Foundation as a legacy for his late wife, a children’s advocate who was killed in a car wreck in 1996 while the couple were celebrating their anniversary in California. Monique Burr had served on the Mayor’s Commission on Children and founded the PALS Center, the first licensed pediatric care facility for children in Northeast Florida who need 24-hour medical care.
In its early years, the Burr Foundation focused on preventing sexual abuse of children.
The years since then have seen the organization grow in both reach and sophistication.
