› Miss Puerto Rico winner grew up in Florida and doesn’t speak fluent Spanish. She says she represents a ‘new generation.’
Madison Anderson Berríos was crowned Miss Puerto Rico on Thursday night, but she’s different than any of the other past champions in the Miss Universe-affiliated pageant. Anderson Berríos is a Puerto Rican who lives in Florida. She was not born or raised on the island, and she is not very fluent in Spanish.

› South Florida Emergency Officials Turn To Drones, Mapping Data For 2019 Hurricane Season
Two years ago, it looked as if Hurricane Irma would make a direct hit to South Florida. Hundreds of thousands of people were ordered to leave their homes. Many did and found emergency shelters with no room and gridlocked traffic. Even when storms come and go within a day, recouping costs for local governments can take months and years.

› University of Florida chosen to lead medical marijuana research
The University of Florida will take part in statewide research on medical marijuana. Florida's Board of Governors chose the University of Florida to lead a group made up of public and private universities to study the health outcomes related to medical marijuana. The University of Florida will receive $1.5 million from the state every year.

› Florida now treats drug dealers as killers — and the law is going after them
More drug dealers are facing murder charges for selling the powerful opiod fentanyl to people who wound up overdosing. Prosecutors contend the dealers not only stuffed their pockets from selling the usually lethal and cheap synthetic pills, but intentionally killed buyers at the same time.
