Florida hepatitis A cases soar past 1,000

Florida has had a reported 1,037 cases of the liver disease hepatitis A this year, nearly double the amount reported for all of 2018, according to numbers posted on the state Department of Health website. The numbers, as of Saturday, show a continued escalation of the contagious disease. Health officials say the outbreak started last year, when the state had 548 cases. That was more than double the 276 cases in 2017 and far more than the 122 cases in 2016. More from WOFL and WPTV.

Florida cities top list of best cities to start a business

Florida is putting in a strong showing on a new ranking of the best cities in America for starting a business. Orlando, Miami and Tampa are among the top 10 best large U.S. cities to start a new business, according to a new study by WalletHub. Jacksonville and St. Petersburg also made the list. Development, business changes active in Ocala/Marion County

The Ocala business landscape continues to change at a brisk pace as new projects enter the area and established businesses change hands. Additional RaceTrac and Dollar General stores are coming to the area and a Coca-Cola distribution hub is set to return. More from the Ocala Star-Banner.

Miami Air International's 'goodwill gesture' to crash survivors: $2,500 and an apology

The operator of the airliner that skidded off the runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and into a Florida river last week has offered $2,500 to each passenger as a "goodwill gesture." In an open letter dated Monday, Miami Air International's CEO apologized to the survivors aboard the Boeing 737-800 that rolled off the end of a runway after landing at the military base. In boost to Gov. DeSantis, Trump asks health secretary to help Florida import Canadian drugs

Florida’s Legislature, with DeSantis’ encouragement, passed a bill last month to create a prescription drug importation program that would seek to bring in low-cost pharmaceuticals from Canada for state programs, such as Medicaid. The concept needs federal approval in order to be put in place. More from the Tampa Bay Times.
