Everglades drilling fight goes to Florida Supreme Court
A legal battle about exploratory oil drilling in the Everglades has gone to the Florida Supreme Court. Broward County and the city of Miramar have filed a notice that is a first step in asking the Supreme Court to take up the dispute, according to a document posted Tuesday on the Supreme Court website. Miami Beach creates ‘welcome wagon’ to lure businesses
Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales has received approval from commissioners to launch a welcome program for new businesses moving to town, with 10 initiatives to help newcomers settle in and keep familiar faces happy. Topping the list of the welcome program’s 10 initiatives is the search for a dedicated staff. The team, once selected, will oversee a database titled New Business Welcome Tool Kit that provides businesses with a guide on the regulatory system and services available. More from Miami Today.
More people rode Virgin’s Brightline train in March. Are 2019 goals now in reach?
Ridership on Virgin’s express train may finally be on track to meet its aggressive targets. Formerly known as Brightline, the company reported that March ridership had increased 17 percent over February’s to 91,903 passengers, with revenue increasing 21 percent. Tampa Bay is Chevy's No. 1 Florida market for electric vehicles
Tampa Bay is the No. 1 Florida market for Chevrolet's electric vehicles. According to data released by General Motors, Chevrolet's parent company, 30 percent of all electric vehicles the company sells are in the bay area. In four states, parking officers can no longer mark your tires. Florida isn’t one of them.
Marking tires with chalk to issue parking tickets is now illegal in four states, but ticket-weary Florida drivers should resist any urge to celebrate. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled unanimously Monday that the practice of "chalking" constitutes an unreasonable search, in violation of the Fourth Amendment.
