› New restaurant brings island flavors to St. Petersburg
WEPA! Cocina de Puerto Rico has planned a grand opening celebration for April 26 that will see a portion of the new restaurant’s proceeds donated to PRxPR, a nonprofit organization that supports hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico.
› Demand Remains High for Industrial Space in Miami
The industrial market in Miami remains strong as two firms have executed leases totaling more than 104,000 square feet there. Miami is one of the nation’s strongest industrial markets with low single-digit vacancy and demand concentrated in the Medley, Hialeah, and Miami Airport submarkets.
› Melbourne ranked No. 8 in Florida for fraud
To shine a light on Florida’s mounting fraud epidemic, Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis, a statewide elected official and a member of Florida’s Cabinet who oversees the Department of Financial Services, announced Florida is home to 18 of the top 50 cities for fraud reports in the nation — the most of any state. Not only does Florida rank first in fraud reports, but also fourth in identity theft reports nationwide.
› Tampa to join Orlando, other airports in adding facial recognition for international travelers
Tampa International will soon join other major airports around Florida and the nation in introducing facial recognition to speed screening, a TV station reports. Orlando and Atlanta were among the first airports to roll out the technology.
