› Growing optimism for South Florida Avenue ‘road diet’
Residents who sat down to percolate and collect their ideas on the proposed “road diet” for South Florida Avenue in Lakeland found instead of dreading the process, they have a reason to be optimistic about the experiment’s results. More than 150 residents attended the Florida Department of Transportation’s open house Tuesday night in Sikes Hall at the RP Funding Center.

› Bradenton’s South Florida Museum is now Bishop Museum of Science and Nature
Leaders of the South Florida Museum on Wednesday announced its new name — The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature. Brynne Anne Besio, the museum’s executive director, said the change honors seven decades of financial support from the Manatee County family that helped start the museum in 1946.

If you’re a Florida resident looking for cheap car insurance, the odds might already be against you. According to personal finance website WalletHub, Florida came in as the second-most expensive state for car insurance, out of 47 states ranked.

› Super Bowl donation from downtown Miami facing a squeeze
The two committees of Miami’s Downtown Development Authority agreed Friday to donate $220,000 to the host committee of Super Bowl 54. The breakdown will be $100,000 in cash, with the balance comprising in-kind services, including $85,000 for a traffic plan and $35,000 for additional working shifts of the Downtown Ambassadors and the Downtown Enhancement Team.
