Florida banks boost profits by 30 percent in latest quarter

The state’s 118 banks and thrifts posted a combined $521 million profit in the July-September period, up by $120 million, or 30 percent, over the previous year, according to data released last week by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

AAA: Florida average gas prices lowest of the year

Gas prices in Florida are now averaging the lowest of 2018. The Florida average has dropped over the past 47 days for a total discount of 39 cents. Sunday's daily average price of $2.43 per gallon is 7 cents less than a week ago, and the lowest since December 2017. More from WJXT.

After 94 years, Palmetto’s Growers Hardware is closing

Soon it will be gone — the ice cream cooler in front, the kids riding their bikes in the aisles, Bailey the dog sniffing your leg the second you walk through the front door, the annual party at the VFW for loyal customers, the 100,000 pieces of hardware, some even practical, the wonderful, dusty smell of grandpa’s garage, gone, all of it. The Fresh From Florida brand marketing campaign once again has a full plate of promotions, incentives and support materials ready to tout the benefits of Florida-grown fruits and vegetables.
