Hurricane Michael: 928 people still unaccounted for as battered Panhandle prepares for rain

Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Michael thrashed the Florida Panhandle, 928 people are still unaccounted for, according to state emergency officials. The Panhandle is also preparing for heavy rain later this week, likely around Thursday or Friday, meaning there could be a "surge" of people in shelters. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Expansion on horizon for Orange County Convention Center

One of the nation's biggest convention centers is getting bigger. Officials plan to expand the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando by 280,000 square feet. The convention center currently has more than 2 million square feet of exhibit space, second in the nation only to McCormick Place in Chicago. More from the AP.

Is a New England company bringing its headquarters to Fort Lauderdale?

A headquarters for an industrial company based in New England is considering relocation to Fort Lauderdale, according to the City Commission’s meeting agenda for Tuesday. Commissioners are scheduled to consider about $210,000 in economic development incentives to help sway the company’s decision toward the city. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Winter Garden's DisGear accused of copyright infringement

A Winter Garden business that sells Disney-inspired apparel is being sued over allegations it stole an idea from another business, court documents show. Dazzle Up, which runs 14 stories in the Carolinas and Virginia, accuses DisGear of trademark and copyright infringement among other charges. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

Mote, Sarasota County closer to land deal

The Sarasota County Commission on Wednesday will consider the terms of an agreement to allow Mote Marine Laboratory to construct a $130 million aquarium at Nathan Benderson Park for a steal. County and Mote officials will present a nonbinding term sheet for the County Commission’s consideration to either lease the land for the new aquarium for $100 a year or sell it for the same nominal price.
