We all remember those heady days in 2006, when it felt like the real estate market would continue to soar. Until it didn’t, when values plummeted in 2007. Now, homes in Florida are reaching record highs and we’re in the middle of a six-year boom in real estate prices. That has some experts worried. [Source: Sarasota Magazine]

Droning on: Commercial use of drones skyrockets

Florida companies, entrepreneurs and schools are all-in as commercial use of drones skyrockets. Nationally, the number of drones registered with the FAA more than doubled during 2016-2017. There will be more than 600,000 registered drones by 2022. Today, drones are being widely used by many industries in Florida, including real estate, agriculture, energy and construction. In Daytona Beach, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University became one of the first in the U.S. to offer a bachelor’s degree in unmanned aircraft systems. Full story here.

Florida candidates push for pot-banking changes

Democratic agriculture-commissioner candidate Nikki Fried and other state Cabinet candidates from both parties want to see federal banking changes that could lead to Florida financial institutions being open to people and businesses with ties to the medical-marijuana industry. Florida bar exam pass rate plummets again

The number of first-time Florida bar exam takers who pass has slipped 4 percent from last year, to 67.2 percent from 71.3 percent, according to the state’s Board of Bar Examiners. Citrus aid money moves a step closer

As a new citrus growing season gets underway, federal assistance tied to the hurricane-ravaged 2017-2018 harvest is finally moving into the application phase. The state Division of Emergency Management announced it has secured a $343 million block grant that was part of a wider disaster-relief package signed into law in February by President Donald Trump.
