› Venice businesses cope with red tide and road work
Reconstruction of the major roads in downtown Venice is on schedule and area businesses are doing the best they can to weather the double whammy of road closures and red tide. The $8.3 million project started July 9 and involves the reconstruction of the core downtown streets of Miami, Venice and Tampa avenues.

› In a new season, Florida Orchestra expands reach, new top soloists
The Florida Orchestra has prepared a 51st season with a wide range of grand masters and newer work, an increased visibility for minorities and women and more collaborations with museums and other artistic institutions.

› Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Recovered Nearly $187,000 For Consumers in August
Last year, the department recovered more than $2.6 million of consumers’ money from moving companies, vehicle repair shops, pawn shops, health studios, telemarketers, sellers of travel and more.

› No one wants a storm, but another hurricane would boost PGT Innovations, report says
PGT Innovations (NYSE: PGTI), a manufacturer headquartered in North Venice, has seen strong sales since Hurricane Irma one year ago, but sales were growing even before the storm hit.
