Are oysters the key to battling red tide in Florida?

As sea life continues to be devastated in the Gulf of Mexico , an unlikely hero has emerged, or in this case submerged, to potentially battle red tide should it creep into other waterways. A single oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day. Combine millions of them and they could be an affective tool in keeping red tide at bay in some areas of the county’s waterways. Florida Supreme Court to weigh in on greyhound racing ban

Florida’s Supreme Court will decide the fate of a dog-racing amendment that is supposed to be on this year’s ballot. On Tuesday, the state’s 1st District Court of Appeal agreed to send the case to the Supreme Court to review a controversial gambling measure, instead of ruing on the matter. [Source: WFTS]

Zika caused health problems for one in seven babies. Some were not apparent at birth.

About one in seven babies exposed to Zika in the womb had health problems caused by the virus — including some medical complications that were not evident at birth and were identified only as the infants grew older, the nation’s top health agency reported on Tuesday. › Downtown Jacksonville authority’s top executive moving to JAX Chamber post
Downtown Investment Authority CEO Aundra Wallace will leave that post to become the next president of JAXUSA Partnership, the regional economic development arm of JAX Chamber. Wallace’s departure means the Downtown Investment Authority board will need to hire a new CEO at a time when developer interest in downtown is hotter than it’s been in years. › Office Depot shares jump after strong second quarter
Boca Raton-based Office Depot (NASDAQ: ODP) said second-quarter sales totaled $2.63 billion, an 11 percent increase from $2.36 billion in the second quarter of 2017. The long-struggling company has been working to transform itself from a purvey of pens and paper to a provider of tech support.
