Synovus agrees to buy Florida's biggest community bank for $2.9 billion

Synovus Financial Corp (SNV.N) said on Tuesday it would buy FCB Financial Holdings, Inc., owner of Florida Community Bank (FCB), for $2.9 billion to boost its deposits and become one of the leading lenders in the U.S. Southeast region. The deal will help Georgia-based Synovus add $9.9 billion in deposits and 50 full-service banking centers, with significant market share in Florida’s 10 largest markets. Amazon Prime members can now get Whole Foods groceries delivered in South Florida

Congratulations South Florida: You have proven your love for Amazon—and are being rewarded accordingly. On Tuesday, the company announced that Amazon Prime members living in and around Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach can now get Whole Foods groceries delivered right to their door. Florida’s lobster mini-season kicks off at midnight

The mad dash for the delicious delicacy, also known as the recreational mini-season, begins at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 25th and ends at 12:00 a.m. July 26th. Port Manatee biodiesel fire cost more than $100,000 to extinguish

A biodiesel fire cost more than $108,000 to extinguish, according to North River Fire District Fire Chief Michael Rampino. North River had about 700 gallons of Universal Gold firefighting foam on hand when they responded to the fire Sunday about 6:45 p.m at Port Manatee. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

 Wildlife experts in northwest Florida have released 20 eastern indigo snakes into the wild as part of an attempt to help the species recover in the region. Indigo snakes, which are federally threatened, can measure nearly 10 feet but are not venomous or dangerous to humans.
