Florida job cuts double in June, but longer trend still shows layoffs declining

In June, job cuts by Florida employers more than doubled compared to the same month a year ago, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas’ monthly report released Thursday. But year-to-date, job cuts were down 6 percent from the same period a year ago: 8,163 compared with 8,684. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Sunrise-based Federal National Insurance Co. changes its name

Sunrise-based Federated National Insurance Co. has changed its name. One of just five publicly traded property and casualty insurers based in Florida, it now calls itself FedNat Insurance Co. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

U.S. Army selects Orlando's Cole Engineering for $500,000 contract

An Orlando defense company will build a prototype of a simulated shoulder-fired missile launcher after they landed a $500,000 contract from the U.S. Army. Florida Forest Service sends firefighters to battle western blazes

Florida Forest Service firefighters are being sent to battle blazes in Oklahoma and other western states. Florida can lend support to other states because of "the recent rainfall and current low wildfire danger levels across Florida," said Florida Forest Service Director and State Forester Jim Karels. The app allows players to win money playing trivia games. Orlando attorney and medical marijuana advocate John Morgan has invested $2 million in the company.
