Statewide career fair hiring Floridians, Puerto Rico evacuees for construction-industry jobs

CareerSource Florida is teaming up with the state’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Department of Economic Opportunity and others on a series of job fairs throughout the Sunshine State aimed at putting career opportunities in front of Floridians, including Puerto Rico evacuees. VyStar Credit Union moving corporate headquarters to downtown Jacksonville

VyStar

VyStar’s Corporate Headquarters will move to 76 S Laura Street in Downtown Jacksonville. Built in 1989, the tower has 23 floors and provides over 380,000 square feet of office space. The building, currently known as the SunTrust Tower, will be renamed the VyStar Tower after closing. With nearly 1,400 employees. VyStar is the 17th largest credit union in the nation, with over $7.6 Billion in assets and 610,000 members. More in the company news release.

Crisis response conference coming to Jacksonville

The National Organization for Victim Assistance is hosting its annual gathering for almost 2,000 professionals in Jacksonville this year to thank businesses that welcomed South Florida residents fleeing Hurricane Irma. More from the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Eight states also don’t want Florida’s ex-felons to vote

Eight states have filed a brief backing Gov. Rick Scott and other Florida officials in a court battle about restoring felons' voting rights. The brief was filed last week in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals by attorneys general from Missouri, Alabama, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. Airbnb remits almost $1 million in Sarasota County bed taxes

Airbnb announced Wednesday that the short-term vacation rental company delivered more than $978,000 in tourist development taxes during its first year of an agreement with Sarasota County. In April 2017, the Sarasota County Tax Collector’s Office and Airbnb announced a tax agreement authorizing the home-sharing platform to automatically collect the 5 percent county bed tax on behalf of hosts. Rainy DayFrom Key West to Pensacola, Florida averaged 9.23 inches of rain in May, topping the 2009 record of 8.91 inches in measurements that have been logged since 1895.
