It's a secret: House votes to close presidential searches

secret

Floridians would have no way to know everyone who applies to be the next president or other top administrator of a public college or university, under a proposed exemption in the state’s public records law that passed the House on Wednesday. While it’s unlikely the bill (HB 351) will become law (because the Senate version was never taken up in committee), the measure has raised concerns. The bill:

"Provides exemption from public records requirements for personal identifying information of applicant for president, vice president, provost, or dean of state university or FCS institution; provides exemption from public meeting requirements for meeting held for specified purposes relating to postsecondary executive search; provides for future legislative review & repeal; provides statement of public necessity."

Bill could allow Florida colleges to begin researching hemp for cultivation

Hemp. It’s not exactly marijuana, but it’s close and still illegal in the state, but legislation moving in both the House and Senate would allow universities begin researching the plant for industrial use. Hemp doesn’t get you high, but it is used in dozens of products you use everyday. Items ranging from beauty products to rope, drywall, and even some car dash boards. More from the and WJXT.
